UNE logo

The UNE logo

All UNE material should carry the UNE logo. UNE material consists of all publications (brochures, booklets posters, teaching material, etc), print advertisements, powerpoint/overhead presentations, display screens, web, clothing, merchandise, signage, stationery, motor vehicles.

There are several different styles of UNE logo for use in different applications, eg. black and white for use on newsprint, green and black for use on a white background or low resolution for use on a webpage. To access the correct logo contact the UNE Brand Officer by email or telephone (6773 2779).

UNE Coat of Arms

The UNE Coat of Arms

The University coat of arms cannot be used without permission of the Vice-Chancellor. Please see the University Handbook. To apply for permission to use the coat of arms, please contact the UNE Brand Officer by email or telephone (6773 2779).

Guidelines for use of the UNE logo

The logo:

  • Must never be recreated either by hand or computer.
  • Must be resized in proportion so the height/width ratio remains (ie. the logo is not stretched horizontally or vertically).
  • Must not be used at a size smaller than 20mm wide. The size should be in proportion to the surrounding material.
  • Must be surrounded by a perimeter of clear space (10% of the width of the logo on all sides).
  • Must not be reversed out of busy images/photographs. If an area of the image is of a solid and consistent tone allowing clear legibility then reversing the logo out of the image is acceptable.
  • Must not be represented by any lightened/watermark versions.

Logo position

The logo should be positioned in either the bottom right-hand corner or the bottom centre of materials, except in the case of the university letterhead or international print materials, where the logo appears in the top left-hand corner of the material.

Logo colours

  • Green and black (UNE green = Pantone Matching System (PMS) 340 or CMYK (C - 100%, M - 0%, Y - 69%, K - 15%) and black solid 100%.
  • Black solid 100%
  • The logo may be reversed (in white) out of solid colours including the faculty colours (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences - PMS 200; Economics, Business and Law - PMS 2623; Education, Health and Professional Studies - PMS 873; The Sciences - PMS 3005).
  • Silver, gold or self embossing may be used for the UNE logo where full-colour (which is always the first preference) is not suitable, in consultation with the UNE Brand Officer.

Use of secondary logos

Secondary logos include department logos (eg. Student Centre, TLC) or Research Centre logos. They should only appear in conjunction with the UNE logo. Departmental logos must only be used internally, not externally, as the use of a second brand icon devalues/competes with the UNE brand.

When used, secondary logos must not be larger than the UNE logo and when applied to letterhead should be located at the base of the letterhead, thus leaving intact the standard UNE letterhead.

Tips for designing secondary logos:

Working with secondary logos makes preparation for print a more difficult process; however, it is currently acceptable under UNE print guidelines. Careful selection of the logo is important. Consideration should be given to:

  • PMS colours: Ideally avoid incurring full-colour printing costs unnecessarily - a key factor in the production of large volume items such as letterhead. How the colours of a secondary logo appear when used in conjunction with UNE green should also be given some thought.
  • Flexibility: How will the logo look in black and white (eg. for a fax or photocopy).
  • Scalability: The logo should be able to be used at a small scale effectively.
  • Image/clarity: Including how the logo appears when utilised in conjunction with the UNE logo.
