Reflective Journal Guidelines

The reflective journal is designed as a tool for you to reflect upon what you have achieved and learned about as a result of extra-curricular participation during the NEA program. Reflecting on your experiences will in turn give you the ability to articulate the skills developed during your time at UNE at a later date.

The journal should be around 5000 words and should address the following questions:

  • How were each of the seven UNE Graduate Attributes enhanced through your extra-curricular activities in your NEA? How did this occur?
  • Have you grown as a person as a result of undertaking extra-curricular activities throughout the NEA? If so, how?
  • Would you like to be involved in similar activities after graduation and why? How might this happen?
  • In what ways have the activities that you participated in throughout the NEA program helped prepare you for life after university?

Include any other information you feel is relevant about your personal and professional growth while undertaking the New England Award.

There is no set structure for your reflective journal. You may use traditional essay structure if you wish or you may write in free flowing journal style.  Feel free to use headings.  If you get stuck contact the NEA Office for help.

You can submit the journal by post to the NEA Office, Teaching and Learning Centre or by email to nea@une.edu.au.

The deadline for the reflective journal is the last day of term in your last year (before the exams). Please refer to the deadlines page for a more comprehensive guide to the NEA deadlines.
