Deferment - Undergraduates & Coursework Postgraduates

  • Applications to defer an offer of an undergraduate or course work postgraduate place must be made to the Student Centre
  • Deferment may be granted for up to one year for off-campus study and up to two years for on-campus study.
  • Deferment is not available to Bachelor of Medicine students.

Examinations

  • Examination Periods are listed in the UNE Principal Dates

  • Examination Timetables are published in the Student Centre website approximately eight weeks before examination start (earlier for summer semester examinations).

  • Examination Centre details are advised directly to each student by the Student Centre - any student who has not been informed within two weeks of the start of the examination period must contact the Student Centre. Details are also published in the Student Centre website.

  • Photo-identification must be produced at any formal examination. If a student does not have photo ID, he/she will be permitted to sit the examination but asked to complete and sign a statutory declaration to give to the Examinations Supervisor.

  • Students wishing to change their examination centre may do so through the Student Portal except when examination centres are already arranged when a special request may be made to the Student Centre.  Deadlines to when changes can be made are applied and fees for approved late changes may be applied (30AUD in 2007).

  • Examination Results are available on-line via the Student Portal.

Examination Centres: On-Campus Students.

  • On-campus students sit their examinations in Armidale. Exemptions may be made on medical grounds or in the case of initial teacher education students where teaching practice commitments necessitate their attendance at school.

Examination Centres: Off-Campus Students

  • Examinations are held in major centres throughout Australia and overseas. Students nominate their centre at enrolment.

  • Students within Australia will be required to travel up to 120 kilometres to an established centre.

  •  Students residing overseas will be required to travel up to 300 kilometres to an established centre and will be liable for the cost of the examination.

  •  Overseas examination centres cost 200AUD (2007 rate) for each paper irrespective of whether the paper is sat.

Intensive Residential Schools

  • Intensive Schools Guidlelines

  • Off-campus students (including higher degree students) may be required to attend compulsory intensive residential schools in Armidale or at other centres where prescribed.

  • If cases of illness, accident or other unforeseeable circumstances that prevent attendance, students may apply for exemption to the Student Centre. Exemption from some intensive schools cannot be granted in any circumstances and withdrawal without academic penalty from the unit is the only option.

  • Students may also be granted exemption:

    • having transferred from on-campus to off-campus enrolment in the unit and has already satisfactorily covered a significant portion of the work to be set for the unit’s intensive school; or

    • re-enrolled in a unit and, at a previous residential school, had already satisfactorily covered a significant portion of the work to be set for the unit’s intensive school.

  • Special support is available to assist special needs students in meeting residential school requirements. In very exceptional circumstances and where academically possible, special needs students may be considered for exemption where their condition is such that they cannot meet residential requirements.

  • Off-campus higher degree students may also be required to meet residential commitments at UNE or elsewhere, either during a set period or at a time and place agreed between the students and their supervisors
