Introduction
On this page you will find information about studying Law at UNE. The Law School was established in 1993 and has grown to become the largest law school in Australia outside of the capital cities. We have a large internal on-campus student body enjoying high-quality facilities and lifestyle. The School is also one of Australia’s largest providers of distance education in law. We pride ourself in our use of modern teaching technology and the quality of our research. This site has been designed to provide information about the school and its teaching and research activities.
Why study law at UNE?
To being with, we have great on-campus accommodation, a vibrant campus life, excellent distance-education, sporting facilities, skilled and experienced staff, and more.
Aside from UNE simply being a great place to study there are many other reasons to study Law at UNE. We have an outstanding external study program which is evident in the fact that over 80% of our student body studies externally. The Law School records its internal lectures and makes them available for external students via a podcast over the internet. For those requiring the student-teacher interaction we offer residential schools for most of our externally offered units. If you want to fast-track your degree we also provide an extra summer semester and you can commence your degree via mid-year enrolment.
Accreditation
The Bachelor of Laws degree is the qualification to practise as a lawyer within Australia. Once the degree is completed, all law graduates are required to complete a period of practical legal training, including further study and supervised experience in a legal practice, before being admitted to practise as a barrister or solicitor. Careers
A UNE law degree provides its graduates skills that are useful for careers such as a solicitor, barrister, law academic, legal aid lawyer, policy advisor and more. As legal issues become more common in all areas of life a law degree can also enhance other career options where knowledge of law is beneficial.
