Self managed online workshops

Many students like to plan and manage their own learning. Term and semester breaks offer some time out to pick up on your skills, particularly those skills that you know need a tune up! Click onto Academic skills online for your choice of tUNEup learning materials. There are workshops with information and/or interactive exercises on your learning strategies, academic reading and writing, maths and stats, referencing, oral presentation strategies, research and computer skills, and rules for writing. You may elect to train yourself or use the site to help you with specific problems as they arise in your academic work. Spend some time browsing and get to know what the site offers for you!

tUNEup from home: online university preparation course

What is tUNEup from home?

tUNEup from home is an optional on-line learning support service for students who may not be confident about studying or writing at university and who would like to do some preparation at home before embarking on their studies. The course is not essential, and it does not count towards your degree.

Who should enrol?

It is targeted specifically to students who may have been out of the educational system for some time and would like to 'tune up' their skills.

What is involved?

The course is free of charge, runs over a period of three weeks and covers aspects of online learning tools, academic writing and study skills. It is based around discussions with a learning adviser and with each other on an online discussion board. You will be guided by focus questions and a suggested study schedule, plus supplementary materials. Individual feedback on a writing activity is available.

When does the course run?

For students enrolling in first semester 2009, there are THREE course dates for you to choose from:
Course 1 commences on 24 November and finishes on 12 December (2008).
Course 2 commences on 12 January and finishes on 30 January (2009).
Course 3 commences on 2 February and finishes on 20 February (2009).
